What counts as zakatable business wealth

Trade inventory (goods held for resale, valued at current market price — not what you originally paid), cash in business accounts, and collectible receivables are generally all zakatable. Fixed assets used to run the business — equipment, premises, delivery vehicles — are typically excluded, since they're tools of the trade rather than goods held for sale.

What you can deduct

Short-term business liabilities due within the year — supplier invoices, short-term loans — can generally be deducted from your total before checking against the Nisab.
