Zakat on Business Inventory: A Guide for Business Owners
Running a business adds a layer of complexity to Zakat — inventory, receivables and short-term liabilities all factor in differently than personal savings. Here's how to approach it.
Calculate your business Zakat
Enter your inventory, cash and liabilities to see what's due.
What counts as zakatable business wealth
Trade inventory (goods held for resale, valued at current market price — not what you originally paid), cash in business accounts, and collectible receivables are generally all zakatable. Fixed assets used to run the business — equipment, premises, delivery vehicles — are typically excluded, since they're tools of the trade rather than goods held for sale.
What you can deduct
Short-term business liabilities due within the year — supplier invoices, short-term loans — can generally be deducted from your total before checking against the Nisab.
